Packaging

The final step in production before distribution is packaging. Packaging means label and box selection, design and duplication, as well as (duh) the actual act of stuffing the product into the box.

This is more of a factor in CD and DVD marketing than in radio and TV production. In my experience, a nice package rasies customer expectations about the product.

COMMERCIAL PACKAGING SERVICES

For large production runs, commercial reproduction and packaging are a great way to go. "Glass-mastered" discs are superior in every way to CD-R and DVD-R products.

For smaller numbers, and projects that are evolving, writeable discs are the only way to go. Several years ago, Freeman started producing Audio CD's using the CD-R method. Once his packaging skills evolved, he was selling products, and distributed thousands of CD's from Boston to New York to Washington D.C.

Freeman is a competent Photographer and Photoshop artist. Here's a label he made for Susan McLucas, the Program Producer, of this DVD of Intelligence Expert John Judge speaking about 9/11. Freeman also duplicated the discs and has a camera credit in the studio-production. The label was printed directly on the DVD surface.
